Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday appeared before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over the ongoing investigation into the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Gbajabiamila honoured the commission’s invitation at its headquarters in Abuja, where he answered questions regarding the alleged activities of the purported agency.
His lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, confirmed the development in a statement, saying the presidential aide fully cooperated with investigators before returning to his official duties.
According to Ogunye, Gbajabiamila arrived at the commission around 3:00 p.m. and gave his testimony as part of the ongoing investigation.
“My client gave his testimony, responded to questions accordingly, and has returned to his duty post,” Ogunye said.
The investigation follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive for a comprehensive probe into the PFIPC after allegations emerged over the operations of the purported agency.
The President’s directive, conveyed on July 2 by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, mandated the ICPC to investigate the matter and submit a comprehensive report within 30 days.
The PFIPC has remained under scrutiny following claims that it operated without official government recognition, prompting investigations by anti-corruption and security agencies.
