Some filling stations across Nigeria have increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), with petrol now selling for as much as ₦1,220 per litre in Abuja and neighbouring areas.
A market survey showed that marketers, including AA Rano and Ranoil, raised their pump prices from between ₦1,170 and ₦1,180 per litre to ₦1,220 per litre, reflecting an increase of ₦40 to ₦50 per litre.
The latest price adjustment follows a sharp rise in ex-depot prices, which increased from about ₦1,090 per litre to between ₦1,125 and ₦1,175 per litre.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) and several other marketers retained their existing pump prices, with petrol selling between ₦1,155 and ₦1,205 per litre as of Thursday.
The development comes after the Dangote Refinery resumed the sale of refined petroleum products in US dollars instead of naira, fixing the ex-depot price of petrol at $0.799 per litre, equivalent to about ₦1,075 per litre at the prevailing exchange rate.
The refinery had earlier dismissed reports alleging it suspended gantry sales of petrol to off-takers, describing the claims as false.
Meanwhile, international crude oil prices edged lower on Thursday, with Brent crude trading at about $84 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) at around $78 per barrel.
