Two persons have been confirmed dead following a road traffic crash involving a truck and a commercial bus at Ogbere Junction along the Ogbere–J4 corridor in Ogun State.
The fatal crash, which occurred at about 5:10 a.m. on Thursday, was confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi, the crash involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus with an unknown registration number.
The FRSC disclosed that four adult male occupants were involved in the crash. Two of the occupants lost their lives, while the remaining two escaped unhurt.
Preliminary findings by the Corps attributed the crash to route violation and speed violation. The impact of the collision caused the Peugeot J5 bus to catch fire, leaving its front section completely burnt.
The statement noted that FRSC rescue personnel arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately commenced rescue and traffic control operations. Traffic was diverted to the alternative carriageway to ease congestion while the wreckage was cleared.
The remains of the deceased were evacuated by officers of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited at a mortuary.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed sympathy to the families of the deceased and urged motorists to strictly obey traffic regulations.
He warned drivers against speeding and route violations, particularly during periods of poor visibility and on wet road surfaces, stressing that such reckless driving habits remain major causes of fatal road crashes across the country.
The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to improving road safety through continuous enforcement of traffic laws, public enlightenment campaigns, and prompt rescue operations. It also advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and to maintain safe speeds while travelling.
