The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed reports that retired Ogun State Television broadcaster Ms. Kitan Oyesiku, popularly called “Aunty Kitan,” was killed by gunmen, describing the claims as unverified and misleading.
Oyesiku, a former OGTV staff member, was found dead alongside her security guard at her residence in Kobape, Abeokuta, in the early hours of Sunday, June 21, 2026. The incident triggered public outrage and widespread speculation about armed assailants.
In a statement Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer CSP Babaseyi Oluseyi said there is currently no evidence of a gunmen attack. He stressed that no gunshot wounds were found on the body of the deceased broadcaster.
“There is currently no evidence to suggest that the deceased was attacked by gunmen, as no gunshot wounds were found on the body,” Oluseyi said. He urged the public and media to refrain from circulating speculative reports.
Police said the alarm was raised after a distress call from a resident of Iyana Agodo Village to the Owode Egba Division. Operatives were promptly deployed to the scene and discovered signs of forced entry at the residence.
According to earlier accounts, the security guard’s lifeless body was found at his duty post while Oyesiku was discovered inside her apartment. Her vehicle was also reported missing, fueling suspicion of possible criminal activity.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni has ordered a thorough and coordinated investigation. Detectives are exploring multiple leads to determine the exact cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Oluseyi appealed for calm, warning that premature conclusions could create unnecessary panic. “Members of the public and the media are therefore urged to respect the dignity of the deceased and allow the ongoing investigation to run its full course,” he said.
The Command assured that findings will be communicated in due time and reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice. Residents of Kobape remain in shock, even as police continue to piece together what happened at the broadcaster’s home.
