The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled multiple criminal networks in coordinated operations across Abeokuta, Wasimi, and Ibafo, arresting six suspects and recovering a cache of firearms, ammunition, stolen generators, and mobile phones.
The breakthrough was achieved through intelligence-led operations by the Violent Crime Response Unit, Special Weapons and Tactics team, and Ibafo Division. Police say the precision strikes disrupted gangs involved in illegal firearms possession, armed intimidation, theft, conspiracy, and receiving stolen property.
Six suspects are now in custody: Afisu Awesu, Bala Aminu, Moruf Sodiq alias “Okiki”, Mumuni Amodu alias “Stone”, Abayomi John alias “Ibafo”, and Mr Adeboye Ojesina. Each is linked to different aspects of the criminal operations uncovered by detectives.
Recovered exhibits include one pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, five generators, and nine Android phones suspected to have been stolen from victims across the state.
The first major hit came on May 30, 2026, when VCRU operatives acted on credible, time-sensitive intelligence and arrested Moruf Sodiq alias “Okiki” in Abeokuta. He is identified as a key player in a generator theft syndicate that targeted homes and businesses.
Under interrogation, Sodiq led operatives to Mumuni Amodu alias “Stone”, alleged to be the receiver of stolen goods. A search of Amodu’s premises yielded four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator, and nine Android mobile phones believed to be recent loot.
Detectives made a further breakthrough with the arrest of Abayomi John alias “Ibafo”, a motorcyclist who allegedly provided rapid logistics for the gang. He is accused of conveying suspects to target locations and helping them escape after operations.
The remaining suspects, Afisu Awesu, Bala Aminu, and Adeboye Ojesina, were picked up in follow-up operations in Wasimi and Ibafo areas as police traced the network’s supply and distribution chain for firearms and stolen items.
All six suspects remain in custody while discreet investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate. The recovered weapons have been documented as exhibits, and the generators and phones are being processed for possible return to owners.
The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to dismantling violent crime networks and urged residents to provide actionable intelligence. It assured that those found culpable would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law once investigations are concluded.
