The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned a married woman for allegedly attacking her husband with a machete, an incident that left severe injuries to his left hand.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed the development to journalists on Monday. He said the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on June 2, 2026, following a domestic dispute between the couple.
According to Jimoh, the suspect allegedly attacked her husband, identified as Olatunde Julius, with a machete during the altercation. The attack reportedly inflicted serious injuries on the victim.
The police spokesperson said the victim was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. Doctors assessed his condition and issued a medical report to aid police investigations into the case.
After concluding investigations, Jimoh said the command established a prima facie case against the suspect. She was subsequently charged to court to face prosecution over the alleged assault.
The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating all forms of domestic violence. Jimoh stressed that such acts pose a serious threat to lives and public safety within communities.
The police urged members of the public to promptly report cases of domestic abuse and violence to security agencies. According to the command, swift reporting enables timely intervention and helps prevent further harm.
Domestic violence cases have continued to attract public concern across the country, with authorities emphasising prosecution and public awareness as key deterrents. The arraignment signals the police command’s stance on zero tolerance for violent acts within families.
The suspect remains in the court system as the case proceeds, while the victim continues to receive treatment for his injuries. Police said they will follow due process to ensure justice is served.
