Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old security guard for allegedly stealing motor spare parts belonging to his employer in Ita-Asu Village, near Owode-Egba. The suspect was intercepted while attempting to move the items out of the area.
The arrest followed a report by the management of the affected company. Police said the suspect, identified as Friday Ayuba, was initially stopped by the Quick Response Squad at the Sagamu Interchange along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. He was reportedly moving company property without authorization.
A search conducted by the officers led to the recovery of several motor spare parts. Police said the items included four air controls, two air boosters, two engine seats, and two fuel pumps. The company later identified all the recovered items as its property.
Investigators said Ayuba, an employee of the company, was found in possession of the parts suspected to have been unlawfully removed from the firm’s premises. Detectives from the Owode-Egba Division visited the scene to carry out further investigation and documentation.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the suspect allegedly admitted to the theft during questioning. They recovered items have been secured as exhibits while investigations continue.
The suspect remains in police custody. Police said he will be charged in court at the conclusion of investigations. The case is being handled by the Owode-Egba Division.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the vigilance of the company’s management and the coordinated efforts of the Quick Response Squad and officers of the Owode-Egba Division. He said the recovery underscores the importance of prompt reporting and public collaboration.
The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting businesses, critical assets, and residents across Ogun State. He said the police will continue to rely on intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention measures.
