Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a 28-year-old suspected armed robber and cultist during a raid on a notorious blackspot at New Artisan in Enugu. The operation led to the recovery of an imitation firearm, a dagger, and suspected illicit drugs.
The arrest was carried out on May 26, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m. by operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit. Police said the raid followed credible intelligence about criminal activity in the area.
The suspect, identified as Osani Joseph of Premier Layout, Enugu, was apprehended during the operation. Police said he was found in possession of items used to intimidate and rob members of the public.
A search conducted on the suspect yielded a silver-coloured gun-like object allegedly used in robbery attacks. Officers also recovered a dagger, ten wraps of substance suspected to be methamphetamine, and a sachet containing substance suspected to be Cannabis sativa.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity. Police said the confession is assisting ongoing investigations into cult-related activities in Enugu.
The Command said discreet investigation into the case is ongoing to uncover other criminal networks linked to the suspect. Authorities aim to ensure diligent prosecution and dismantle associated gangs operating in the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reiterated the Command’s commitment to ridding Enugu State of criminal elements. He said the police will continue targeted operations against cultism, armed robbery, and drug trafficking.
CP Giwa urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant. He called on the public to support the police by providing credible and timely information that can aid ongoing security operations.
