Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, says he is awaiting federal approval to formally deploy his security outfit, Iru Ekun Security Network, to dislodge criminal elements from forests across the South-West.
In a statement issued on Monday, Igboho said all required documents and procedures for the registration of Iru Ekun had been submitted to the Federal Government. He expressed confidence that approval would be granted soon to allow the outfit to begin operations.
The activist stated that the proposed network is ready to work alongside the police, Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other security agencies. The goal, he said, is to flush out terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and other groups threatening rural communities.
Igboho commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture, particularly in the South-West. He noted that the current federal approach signals a clear intent to tackle insecurity across the country.
He also affirmed readiness to comply with the new executive order issued by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, which regulates the activities of private security organisations in the state. Igboho said Iru Ekun would operate within the framework set by the state government.
“We are ready to support and cooperate with measures aimed at strengthening the security and peace in Oyo and other states in Yorubaland,” he said in the statement made available to journalists.
The activist stressed that peace and security are essential for socioeconomic development, especially in rural areas that serve as the hub of agricultural production. He argued that securing these communities is critical to Nigeria’s food security and the livelihood of farmers.
Igboho has been vocal on the need for community-based security responses to kidnapping and banditry in the South-West. The proposed Iru Ekun Security Network is positioned as a structured effort to complement existing state and federal forces.
The statement concluded with a call for collaboration among stakeholders to restore safety in affected areas. For now, Igboho said the outfit remains on standby pending the Federal Government’s approval.
