The Ogun State Police Command has ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation into an incident involving students of the Ogun State Institute of Technology, OGITECH, Igbesa, and officers attached to the Igbesa Division.
The directive was issued on Monday night by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, following reports of a confrontation between the students and police personnel.
In a press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the police confirmed awareness of the incident which occurred on the night of 12th May 2026.
The statement did not give details of what led to the clash but said the matter was already receiving prompt attention.
CP Ojajuni assured the public that due process would be strictly followed to establish the facts surrounding the encounter.
He stated that where any misconduct is found on the part of the officers involved, appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken in line with extant regulations governing the Nigeria Police Force.
The Command reiterated its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and respect for the rights of all residents, including students. It emphasized that no one is above the law and that officers found wanting would be held accountable.
Addressing the student community, the police urged students of OGITECH and other tertiary institutions in the state to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while the investigation runs its course.
The Command noted that maintaining order was crucial to ensuring a fair and unbiased inquiry.
DSP Babaseyi said the investigation would be thorough and transparent, and that the outcome would be communicated to the public in due course. He stressed that justice would be pursued without compromise, regardless of the parties involved.
The incident at Igbesa adds to growing concerns over interactions between security personnel and students in Ogun State. Stakeholders have often called for improved communication and restraint to prevent escalation during such encounters.
The Ogun State Police Command said it remains open to engagement with the school authorities and student leaders to prevent a recurrence and to build trust between the police and the academic community.
Residents have been encouraged to report any additional information that could aid the investigation through the Command’s official channels, as authorities work to conclude the probe and restore confidence in the system.
