The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered three stolen vehicles, live cartridges, a So-Safe Corps uniform, and other items during operations carried out in Ifo and Sango-Ota areas of the state.
The suspects, identified as Mohammed Adeniyi Usman, also known as “Mandela,” aged 48, and Abiodun Ogunojukan, popularly called “Ilasa,” aged 38, were arrested by operatives of the Ifo and Sango Police Divisions following intelligence reports on vehicle theft and armed robbery activities.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the breakthrough came after a sustained investigation into cases of armed robbery and car snatching reported within the divisions.
Police detectives from Ifo Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kamorudeen Olabisi, reportedly stormed a suspected criminal hideout at Adeleye Area, Itele, Ota, on Saturday, May 10, 2026, following credible intelligence that stolen vehicles were being kept there.
The operatives arrived at the location around 4 p.m. and discovered suspected stolen vehicles within the premises. They immediately secured the area and laid ambush for the suspects.
The operation later led to the arrest of Mohammed Adeniyi Usman at about 10:35 p.m.
During a search of the premises, police recovered a Toyota Corolla belonging to a complainant, a Toyota Venza allegedly stolen at gunpoint on April 26, 2026, at Ilese-Awo in Abeokuta, and a Honda Crosstour reportedly snatched during another robbery operation at Ijoko, Ota.
The police said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect belongs to a criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery and vehicle theft in Ogun State and neighbouring areas.
Further operations jointly carried out by operatives of Ifo and Sango Divisions on Sunday, May 11, 2026, also led to the arrest of the second suspect, Abiodun Ogunojukan, at the Sango-Ota Under Bridge around 5 p.m.
Police said the suspect confessed to participating in the crimes and provided useful information that could help in tracking down other members of the gang and recovering more stolen vehicles.
Other items recovered during the operation include two live cartridges, foreign currencies, a So-Safe Corps uniform, an MP3 sound system, and a plasma television set.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their professionalism and swift action. He also assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
