No fewer than 11 persons have lost their lives in a tragic road accident at Eruku Bridge along the Abeokuta-Lagos highway in Ogun State.
The fatal crash occurred on Sunday night, May 10, 2026, involving a gold Toyota vehicle with registration number GGE 722KJ.
According to the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the vehicle reportedly somersaulted and plunged off the bridge, leaving the occupants trapped inside after the doors became locked on impact.
FRSC rescue operatives from the Itori Unit Command quickly responded to the scene of the accident. With assistance from residents of the area, the damaged vehicle was dismantled to recover the victims.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, confirmed that all 11 occupants of the vehicle — made up of 10 adult men and one adult woman — died in the incident.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue in Ifo.
The FRSC said preliminary findings pointed to driving under the influence and overloading as the possible causes of the crash.
Reacting to the incident, Corps Commander Ogunjobi urged motorists using the Abeokuta-Lagos route to drive carefully and avoid reckless driving, especially at night.
He also sympathised with the families of the victims and prayed for them to have the strength to bear the loss.
