The Ogun State Police Command has thwarted a truck hijacking attempt in Ijebu North Local Government Area, recovering a stolen DAF truck and a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped in black tape after suspected hoodlums fled under pressure from operatives.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, May 6, 2026, following a distress call from a driver who reported being accosted while transporting motor spare parts through the Oke-Ado area of Ijebu Imushin.
Preliminary findings show the driver was intercepted by suspected hoodlums who forcefully took the truck from him at gunpoint. The attackers had planned to divert the vehicle and its cargo to an unknown location.
Upon receiving the report, detectives from Ijebu Imushin Division, in collaboration with highway patrol operatives, swiftly mobilized to the scene. Their rapid response forced the suspects to abandon the truck and flee into nearby bushes.
The police intervention prevented the loss of both the truck and the consignment of spare parts. No items were reported missing from the recovered vehicle after an initial inventory check by the driver and officers.
The driver sustained a minor injury to his right ankle during the struggle with the hoodlums. He was given first aid treatment at the scene and is said to be in stable condition.
A thorough search of the recovered DAF truck led to the discovery of a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped with black tape. Police believe the crude weapon was used to intimidate the driver during the hijack.
Operatives have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects. Intelligence units are combing surrounding communities, with the Command expressing confidence that arrests will be made soon.
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the swift and professional response of the operatives.
