The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered three stolen vehicles, along with a pistol, during a security operation in the state.
The development was contained in a press release signed and made available to journalists by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi.
The suspects, identified as Hammed Olarewaju, Adedokun Ayinde, and Adedokun Adewusi, were arrested by detectives of the Anti-Robbery Squad following credible intelligence on vehicle theft.
Police said the operation began after reports of stolen vehicles in parts of Ogun State. During the investigation, Hammed Olarewaju was first arrested and found with a suspicious vehicle plate number. His arrest led to the capture of Adedokun Ayinde, who police described as the leader of a robbery syndicate.
During the operation, officers recovered a stolen Toyota Sienna and a locally made pistol believed to have been used by the suspects.
In a related case, a stolen Toyota Corolla taken from Ilaro was recovered in Ibadan, Oyo State, from a suspect identified as Arowolo Taoreed.
Police also arrested Adedokun Adewusi in connection with another robbery incident. Further investigation led to the recovery of a grey 2017 Lexus RX 350 F-Sport, which had been traced to Abuja. A pistol linked to the same criminal network was also recovered in Ajah, Lagos State.
According to the police, preliminary findings show that the suspects are part of a criminal network involved in car theft and armed robbery across Ogun State and nearby states.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers for their efforts and assured residents that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property.
He also urged members of the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the police through available emergency numbers.
Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang who are still at large and to recover more stolen vehicles.
