A fatal road crash involving multiple vehicles has claimed three lives and left seven others injured at the Onipepeye axis of the Abeokuta–Sagamu highway in Ogun State.
The accident, which occurred around 5:40 p.m. on Saturday, involved a Sino truck and an Opel passenger car, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command.
The Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, confirmed that FRSC rescue teams arrived at the scene within seven minutes of receiving the distress call, reaching the location at about 5:52 p.m.
A total of 10 persons were involved in the crash, comprising four adult males, three adult females, two female children, and one male child. Out of this number, seven victims sustained varying degrees of injuries, while three persons two adult males and one female child lost their lives.
Preliminary findings by the FRSC indicate that speeding and loss of control were the likely causes of the collision.
The injured victims were promptly evacuated to the State Hospital, Ijaye, for medical attention, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
The FRSC noted that no personal belongings were recovered from the scene at the time of filing the report.
Reacting to the incident, Ogunjobi urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition to prevent avoidable crashes.
The command reiterated its commitment to prompt emergency response and road safety enforcement across the state.
