A viral video showing a woman accusing medical staff of withholding one of her twins after delivery has prompted a police investigation at Tip-Top Solution hospital in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.
The footage, shared on X by user AsakyGRN on Wednesday, showed the woman holding a newborn while confronting hospital staff. Visibly distressed, she was heard shouting and demanding the whereabouts of her second baby.
“Produce my second baby. This is not good enough. I did not come to this hospital to be robbed of my baby,” the woman said in the video. Family members and supporters who accompanied her could be heard in the background calling for the arrest of hospital staff over allegations of baby trafficking.
The video also displayed an obstetric scan report said to belong to the patient, identified as Blessing Isioma David, 28. The document, dated March 2026, indicated a twin pregnancy with two foetuses observed. It described Twin 1 as an oblique cephalic presentation with gender XY, and Twin 2 as a transverse presentation with gender XX. The report noted that normal cardiac pulsations were present for both foetuses at the time of the scan.
Reacting to the allegation, the hospital’s medical director, Sunday Babajide, dismissed claims of wrongdoing. He insisted that only one baby was delivered during the procedure and that the earlier scan result was inaccurate.
“The scan was wrong, and she did not do another scan in another centre. It was an error. The scan said two instead of one,” Babajide was quoted as saying to the Peoples Gazette. He stated that the patient’s husband was invited into the theatre and witnessed that only one child was born. “The woman herself was not asleep. She was awake during the delivery,” he added.
Babajide explained that ultrasound scans conducted at later stages of pregnancy can sometimes produce errors, especially in determining the number of foetuses. He noted that the scan in question was carried out at about 20 weeks of gestation. “If the scan was done at the early stage, it will clearly show it. But if the scan was done at a later period, an error can occur,” he said. He admitted that the hospital should have insisted on a second confirmatory scan at another facility to be certain.
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed it is aware of the trending video and has opened an investigation into the matter. Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi said relevant professional bodies and medical associations have been contacted and are working in synergy with the police to establish the facts of the case.
According to the police statement, the Area Commander, Area M, is personally overseeing the investigation to ensure transparency. The Command assured the public that the outcome will be made public once inquiries are concluded. It also appealed to residents to remain calm, noting that the situation is under control and that no threat to public order has been observed.
The incident has generated widespread attention online and offline, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough review of hospital procedures around prenatal scans, delivery records, and patient consent. Medical practitioners have also weighed in, noting that while scan errors are rare, they can occur and are usually resolved with repeat imaging. The case remains under active investigation.
