Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has promised that the perpetrators of the “heinous” attack on innocent citizens in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, will not go unpunished.
The Governor made this commitment in a post on X on Wednesday, following a visit to the affected community.
Mutfwang expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, saying “Your pain is my pain, and the pain of Plateau State.” He assured the people that his administration would pursue justice, saying, “I assure you that those responsible for this evil act will not go unpunished.”
The Governor announced that the Plateau State Government would take full responsibility for the medical bills of all those injured in the attack, and ensure a befitting burial for those who lost their lives. “We will also ensure that the lives lost are honored with dignity through a befitting burial,” he said.
Mutfwang emphasized that security is a “shared responsibility” and appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to collaborate with the government. “Security is a shared responsibility, and together, we must rise above division and confront this challenge with unity and resolve,” he added.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday, claimed the lives of 12 people, including 10 men and two women, according to the Plateau State Police Command. The state government has imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area in response to the incident.
The latest incident is part of a series of attacks in Plateau State, with at least 20 security operatives and vigilantes reportedly killed in an ambush by gunmen in Kanam Local Government Area recently. The Governor’s visit to the community was aimed at consoling the affected families and assessing the situation.
Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s goal to restore peace and rebuild trust across the state, saying, “My administration will pursue justice relentlessly until the perpetrators are brought to book.” The Plateau State Government has assured the public that it will do everything possible to prevent such incidents in the future.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with calls for increased security measures to protect citizens. The Plateau State Government has urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
