The acting chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Osun State, Kazeem Oyewale, has denied allegations that he orchestrated an assassination attempt on Adebayo Adeleke, son of Governor Ademola Adeleke and popularly known as B-Red.
The rebuttal follows a statement issued by the Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, who claimed B-Red narrowly escaped an attack in the Oke-Fia area, a few metres from the Osun Government House. The government’s statement linked the incident to hoodlums allegedly led by Oyewale, also known as Asiri Eniba.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Monday, May 12, 2026, Oyewale dismissed the claims as “false and politically motivated.” He threatened to seek legal redress over what he described as defamation and an attempt to frame him ahead of the next election cycle.
Oyewale, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to intervene. He alleged that state officials were harassing him and his supporters, and called for protection from what he termed “indiscriminate persecution.”
He said, “They should come to my aid because the governor and Kolapo Alimi have called for my arrest over untrue allegations, and they are even threatening me. Those after me killed my younger brother in November 2022, and they have not released the corpse to us till today.”
The NURTW boss further distanced himself from recent destruction of political billboards in the state. “They killed my younger brother and now they are alleging that I am behind the destruction of billboards. It does not sound logical. I don’t know anything about these allegations,” he said.
Oyewale argued that the accusations mirrored tactics used against him in 2022. “This is another election cycle in Osun State. They have been trailing me and want to kill me. They are lying against me, making claims that they cannot substantiate,” he told reporters.
He maintained that he had no conflict with the Accord Party or Governor Adeleke’s family, stressing his membership in the APC. “I am a member of the APC. What is my business with Accord? Any time something goes wrong within their party, they will blame me for it,” he added.
Addressing his followers, Oyewale urged calm and resilience. “I urge my followers and supporters not to entertain fear because nothing will happen to them. They used the style of indiscriminate arrest of NURTW members in 2022, but it can’t happen again. That is why they have embarked on a campaign of calumny against my personality.”
As of press time, the Osun State Government had not issued a fresh response to Oyewale’s counter-allegations. Police authorities in the state have also not confirmed any formal petition from the NURTW leader.
