Controversial singer Habeeb ‘Portable’ Badmus announced the birth of a baby boy with partner Omobewaji Ewatomi on Friday, hours after losing a unanimous decision to comedian Carter Efe at the Chaos in the Ring 4 celebrity boxing match.
Omobewaji broke the news on Instagram, writing “Alhamdullillah” and thanking God for a safe delivery. She also tagged the newborn’s page, which revealed the child’s name as Jamal Iremide.
Portable celebrated the birth in a separate Instagram post, praising Omobewaji for making him happy. “God bless you more, Omoleye Omobewaji mi. Thanks for making me happy,” the Zazu crooner wrote.
The timing of the delivery coincided with Portable’s bout against Carter Efe at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island. Efe won the three-round exhibition by unanimous decision, ending Portable’s run of two prior celebrity boxing wins.
Addressing fans on Instagram Stories, Portable said he chose to celebrate his newborn over a championship belt. “I thought I would carry a belt, but I carried my child instead. You can buy a belt with money, but you can’t buy a child,” he said.
The singer revealed that Omobewaji was in labour while he was in the ring. “While my wife was in labour, I was fighting. She gave birth to a boy. I wanted a third belt for my children; I already have two. I have given birth, you can have the belt,” Portable added.
Jamal Iremide is the third child between Portable and Omobewaji. The singer has publicly stated his intention to have 12 wives before turning 40, though he recently described Omobewaji as his only wife and referred to other women in his life as baby mamas.
Portable’s loss to Carter Efe was his first in celebrity exhibition boxing after previous wins over Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington. Efe was awarded N50 million by businessman E-Money for the victory, as pledged before the fight.
Friday’s double event capped a dramatic night for Portable, blending personal joy with professional defeat. Fans flooded both parents’ pages with congratulatory messages, while boxing commentators debated the impact of the loss on his celebrity fight record.
