The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 118 suspects and recovered several weapons and stolen items during operations carried out across the state in April 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Olayiwola Fatai, disclosed this during a press briefing, where he highlighted the Command’s achievements for the month.
He said the arrests were made in connection with crimes such as armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, vandalism, and street violence.
According to him, items recovered from the suspects include 11 locally made Beretta pistols, one English Beretta pistol, one cut-to-size gun, two dane guns, nine telecom power batteries, four cutlasses, one knife, 21 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, charms, and other incriminating items.
The police boss noted that one of the major operations took place on April 27, when officers raided criminal hideouts in Ilasan, Lekki, and Maroko areas. The operation led to the arrest of 58 suspects linked to street crimes such as phone snatching and attacks on residents.
In another development, police operatives arrested two suspected kidnappers in Ikorodu. The suspects were said to be involved in the kidnapping and killing of a 17-year-old boy, as well as a previous case in which a female victim was abducted and killed after a ransom was paid.
The Command also arrested three suspected telecom vandals following intelligence reports from a telecommunications company. Nine stolen power batteries were recovered during the operation.
Similarly, eight suspected cultists were arrested during a crackdown in the Iwaya area, while 20 others linked to cultism and robbery were apprehended on Lagos Island.
Police also arrested a suspected robber on Anthony Bridge and recovered two locally made pistols from him. In separate operations, more suspects linked to cult activities were arrested in Ajao Estate and Festac areas.
In another case, two suspects were caught while attempting to sell a firearm. A Beretta pistol was recovered, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the main supplier believed to be based in Kaduna State.
CP Fatai said the Command will continue its intelligence-led operations to rid the state of criminals and ensure the safety of residents.
He urged members of the public to support the police by providing useful information, adding that all suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
