The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have deepened inter-agency collaboration aimed at enhancing road safety and border security in Ogun State.
This followed a courtesy and familiarisation visit by the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Oludare Ogunjobi, to the Area Comptroller of the NCS, Oladapo Afeni, at the Ogun I Area Command headquarters in Idi-Iroko.
The visit, which took place on April 20, 2026, was part of efforts to formally introduce the new FRSC sector commander following his assumption of office on April 11, while also strengthening the working relationship between the two agencies.
During discussions, both leaders emphasised the importance of synergy between their organisations, noting that their mandates intersect in ensuring public safety and national security, particularly along border corridors.
To translate this collaboration into action, Ogunjobi outlined key areas of cooperation. These include coordinated patrols and vehicle inspections across highways and border points to ensure compliance with safety and documentation standards. He also highlighted the need for intelligence sharing on vehicle smuggling, traffic violations, and suspicious cross-border activities.
Other measures include joint training programmes on road safety and vehicle inspection techniques, as well as public enlightenment campaigns targeting motorists and border communities on safe driving practices and customs regulations.
The partnership will also feature a joint rapid response mechanism to address road crashes and security incidents, especially along the busy Lagos–Idi-Iroko corridor.
Ogunjobi reiterated the FRSC’s zero-tolerance stance on extortion and stressed the importance of professionalism among personnel, assuring the Customs Command of a transparent and results-driven collaboration.
In his response, Afeni commended the initiative and pledged full support, assuring the FRSC of an open-door policy to ensure the success of the partnership.
Both agencies have agreed to establish a joint technical committee to drive the implementation of the outlined strategies.
The renewed collaboration is expected to improve road safety, strengthen border security, and boost national revenue generation in Ogun State.
