The National Association of Nigerian Students has commended Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress in the state over the endorsement of Senator Solomon Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Governor Abiodun on Monday named Yayi as the APC consensus choice for the party’s 2027 governorship ticket. The endorsement was announced during a strategic APC caucus meeting of party leaders and stakeholders focused on succession plans and preparations for the next election cycle.
In a statement on Monday, NANS National Public Relations Officer Samson Adeyemi described the endorsement as a bold and strategic decision. He said the move reflects the party’s commitment to continuity, progressive governance, and youth-inclusive leadership.
The association said it views the development as a positive step towards strengthening democratic values and ensuring purposeful leadership in Ogun State. It noted that the decision signals political foresight necessary for sustaining developmental strides already recorded in the state.
NANS commended the lawmaker’s record of service, particularly in education, youth empowerment, and infrastructural development. The group said Adeola’s legislative contributions and empowerment initiatives have directly and indirectly impacted countless students and young people.
The student body also hailed Abiodun for what it described as purposeful leadership and for supporting a transition process anchored on competence, credibility, and grassroots connection. It added that such political foresight is necessary for maintaining progress in the state.
NANS expressed confidence in Adeola’s capacity to deliver inclusive governance. It stated that the endorsement of the Ogun West senator reflects the aspirations of youths and students in the state who desire responsive, inclusive, and forward-looking governance.
While pledging support, the association urged the lawmaker to sustain engagement with students and young people. It reaffirmed its commitment to advocating policies that promote educational advancement and socio-economic growth across Ogun State.
The group called on political stakeholders to uphold democratic principles and ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process ahead of the 2027 elections.
