The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old suspect, Chidi Ebere, over the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa area of the state.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, April 8, 2026, involved the victim, identified as Sunday Ogbu, 36, who was reportedly attacked while conveying the suspect on his motorcycle.
According to police sources, the suspect had boarded the motorcycle as a passenger before launching an attack on the rider in a bid to dispossess him of the bike.
The attempt led to a violent struggle between both men.
An eyewitness at the scene was said to have raised an alarm, drawing the attention of residents and security operatives.
Police officers from the Igbesa Division responded swiftly and rescued the victim, who was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
However, despite efforts to save his life, the victim was later confirmed dead by medical personnel on duty.
The suspect was arrested at the scene, while the motorcycle and the knife allegedly used in carrying out the attack were recovered by the police as exhibits.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, where further investigation is ongoing and prosecution is being prepared.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the killing and assured the public that justice would be served.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or criminal activities to security agencies.
The police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while encouraging members of the public to make use of available emergency lines to assist in crime prevention.
