The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted a large consignment of cocaine concealed in heads of imported dry stock fish and arrested a key member of the syndicate responsible for shipping the drugs abroad. The operation followed intelligence on trans-border criminal activities.
NDLEA operatives recovered 237 wraps of cocaine, weighing 5.80 kilograms, from 36-year-old Akputa Dickson Ejike at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The consignment was bound for Delhi, India.
In another operation, NDLEA seized 1.9 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in automobile filters at a courier company in Lagos. The shipment originated from Cotonou, Benin Republic, and was bound for the United Kingdom.
A 46-year-old woman, Omolade Abigail Jolayemi, was arrested with 135 blocks of cannabis weighing 76.30 kilograms in Yaba, Lagos. Her associate, 31-year-old Sarah Zainab Agbabiaka, was also apprehended.
In Ekiti State, an 80-year-old man, Oke Samuel, was arrested with 2.2kg of skunk and 1.8grams of methamphetamine. The NDLEA also seized 894.72 kilograms of skunk from an uncompleted building in Ondo State.
The agency has intensified its War Against Drug Abuse social advocacy, conducting sensitisation lectures in schools across several states. Chairman and CEO of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa, commended operatives for their efforts.
Other arrests include 35-year-old Saater Nyam with 116.7 kilograms of skunk in Benue State and 25-year-old Felix Donald with 576.5 kilograms of skunk in Edo State. Two suspects were arrested in Taraba State with 135 kilograms of skunk.
The NDLEA vows to continue its crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse, urging citizens to support its efforts. The agency’s operations have yielded significant results, with several suspects arrested and large quantities of illicit substances seized.
