The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s North Central zone has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu, adopting him as its sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The unanimous decision was made at the North Central Zonal Congress in Lafia, Nasarawa State, with governors, senators, former ministers, and party stakeholders pledging their support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, who chairs the North Central Governors Forum, seconded the motion adopting Tinubu, citing the president’s economic reforms as the reason for backing him. Sule noted that Tinubu’s policies had enabled governors to carry out their duties without relying on bank loans.
Former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, formally moved the adoption motion, highlighting the zone’s strategic importance to the party’s national outlook.
Akume urged party members to work towards a decisive victory in 2027, emphasizing that the party’s success depended on its ability to mobilize and win elections at all levels.
The APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, commended the North Central Zone for its loyalty to the party and Tinubu’s agenda, describing it as a bedrock of stability for the administration. Yilwatda urged the newly elected zonal executives to work towards growing the party’s numbers and strength.
The congress elected new zonal executives through a consensus process, with participants affirming their support for Tinubu’s re-election bid. The event was attended by governors, former governors, senators, ministers, and grassroots delegates from across the zone.
Tinubu’s adoption as the APC’s sole candidate for 2027 is seen as a significant boost to his re-election prospects. The party’s unity and enthusiasm in the North Central zone are expected to play a crucial role in the upcoming elections.
The APC has been riding high on its recent successes, having won several key elections in the country. The party’s national leadership has been working to consolidate its support across the country, and the North Central zone’s adoption of Tinubu is a major coup.
The 2027 presidential election is shaping up to be a closely contested race, with several parties and candidates jostling for position. The APC’s decision to rally behind Tinubu is expected to give the party a significant advantage in the election.
The outcome of the election is far from certain, but one thing is clear: the APC is determined to make a strong showing in 2027, and Tinubu’s adoption as the party’s sole candidate is a major step towards achieving that goal.
