The Delta State Police Command has arrested six individuals, including the chief organiser and community head, over alleged sexual assaults at a local event in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area. The incident, captured on video, has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation across the state.
“Acts of sexual violence are criminal, inhumane, and constitute a grave violation of the fundamental rights and dignity of victims,” said SP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further probe and prosecution.”
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred during a cultural event in Ozoro, where several women were allegedly dragged away and assaulted by a group of men. The disturbing videos, which have gone viral on social media, show the victims being manhandled and subjected to inhumane treatment.
The police have confirmed that Chief Omorede Sunday, the chief organiser of the event, and five others have been arrested in connection with the incident. The police have also deployed tactical and investigative assets to identify and apprehend all those involved in the heinous act.
The Delta State Government has condemned the incident, with the Commissioner of Police assuring the public that the command will ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. “We will not tolerate such acts of violence and will ensure that justice is served,” CP Aina Adesola said.
The police have urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, while assuring them that the command is committed to maintaining public order and protecting citizens’ rights. The investigation is ongoing, with the police promising to bring perpetrators to justice.
