Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, visited the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital on Tuesday to meet with victims of the recent improvised explosive device (IED) explosions.
He also assessed the Monday Market bombing site in Maiduguri, where he emphasized that security in the city has been significantly tightened.
Disu met with officials at the Borno State Government House and the State Police Command Headquarters to review ongoing security measures and strengthen coordinated response strategies.
He commiserated with the victims and their families, assuring them of the Nigeria Police Force’s determination to dismantle networks responsible for the attacks and prevent any recurrence.
The attacks, which occurred on Monday, left 23 people dead and 108 others injured. The Nigerian Army has announced intensified surveillance and security operations across Maiduguri to track down suspects and prevent further attacks.
The army’s efforts are focused on identifying the masterminds behind the bombings and bringing them to justice.
President Bola Tinubu has directed security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to take charge of operations and has promised to intensify efforts against all criminal elements.
The Nigerian government has also ordered emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured and support the affected families.
The police force has increased deployments, enhanced surveillance, and joint operational measures across the metropolis to forestall further threats and ensure public safety. Residents of Maiduguri have been assured of the police force’s commitment to security and stability in the city.
