Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has approved the confirmation of appointments for 1,659 staff members of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
These workers were employed between 2016 and 2019 and had been serving without permanent confirmation. This move is expected to bring relief and job security to the affected workers.
The confirmation follows a rigorous examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission on February 28, 2026. The commission had invited 2,512 candidates to sit for the exam, but only 2,281 turned up. This represents a turnout rate of about 90.8%, indicating a high level of interest and commitment from the workers.
Unfortunately, 224 officers were absent, raising suspicions of ghost workers. The FCT Civil Service Commission takes a dim view of such absences and will likely investigate further to identify and take appropriate action against those involved.
The confirmation of these workers is a significant step towards improving staff welfare and career progression in the FCTA. Wike’s administration has been working to address these issues since taking office, and this move is seen as a major milestone in the efforts to boost staff morale and productivity.
In January, Wike approved the immediate promotion of over 2,000 workers in Abuja, cutting across 165 cadres.
The promotions were done using a Computer-Based Test (CBT) system, ensuring transparency and efficiency. This move was widely welcomed by the workers and is expected to have a positive impact on the administration’s performance.
The FCT Civil Service Commission has also concluded plans to conduct the 2025 and 2026 promotion exercises.
