The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, also known as So-Safe Corps, has arrested three suspects over an attempted cable theft in Ijagun area of Ijebu-Ode. The suspects were apprehended by the Special Squad of the Ijebu Zonal Command during a routine patrol in the early hours of Monday, March 2, 2026.
According to Dr. Soji Ganzallo, the Corps Commander, the suspects were arrested while heading towards Ijagun area of the state. The suspects, identified as 31-year-old Wale Mosadoluwa, 30-year-old Adeleje Okunuga, and 33-year-old Anifowose Michael, were found with tools suspected to have been used for the crime.
Dr. Ganzallo explained that one of the suspects had, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to engaging in cable theft since 2023. The suspect revealed that an accomplice currently in a correctional facility had directed him to retrieve tools from a hidden location.
The So-Safe Corps Commander listed items recovered from the suspects to include a large cutter, pliers, a screwdriver, and a motorcycle. He added that the suspects and recovered exhibits had been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Igbeba Area Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The suspects’ arrest is seen as a significant breakthrough in the fight against cable theft in Ogun State. Cable theft has been a major concern in the state, with many areas experiencing disruptions in power supply due to the activities of thieves.
The So-Safe Corps has been working closely with other security agencies to curb the menace of cable theft in the state. The Corps Commander urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities, assuring that they will do their best to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed receipt of the suspects and exhibits, and has promised to conduct a thorough investigation. The police will soon arraign the suspects in court, where they will face charges related to cable theft.
The arrest of the suspects is a testament to the effectiveness of the So-Safe Corps and other security agencies in the state. It is hoped that this will serve as a deterrent to others who may be involved in similar activities.
