A tragic incident has shaken the Ijebu Ode community in Ogun State, Nigeria, as a 30-year-old mother of three, Abigail Adebayo, reportedly took her own life after her fiancé’s family rejected their marriage.
Abigail had been in a relationship with Oniga Abiola since September 2025, and they were planning to get married.
However, things took a turn for the worse when Abiola, the man she loved, introduced her to his family, who disapproved of the union due to her having three children from a previous relationship. The rejection reportedly left Abigail deeply emotional and distressed.
She was later found motionless in her room, having allegedly ingested a toxic substance. Abiola immediately reported the incident to the Atan Ijebu Division of the Ogun State Police Command. Abigail was rushed to General Hospital, Ijebu Ode, where she was confirmed dead on arrival.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that detectives visited the scene and the hospital, documenting evidence and observing that there were no visible signs of physical violence on the body.
A full investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
