Former President Olusegun Obasanjo will mark his 89th birthday with a free medical outreach targeting at least 10,000 residents of Lagos State, organised by the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation from February 27 to March 4, 2026.
The Lagos Medical Mission, as announced by Foundation CEO Dr. Olalekan Makinde, will begin on February 27 at Ijede LCDA Council Hall, Ijede, Ikorodu, and continue on February 28 at Imota Mini Stadium, Imota. From March 2 to March 4, services will shift to Alade Stadium, Command Road, Agbado/Oke-Odo in Alimosho.
Free services will include ear care, hearing aids, eye screenings, prescription glasses, referrals for eye surgeries, cardiovascular checks, blood pressure monitoring, heart health assessments, and preventive medical counseling. General consultations, diagnosis, treatment, and essential medications will also be provided at no cost.
Dr. Makinde described the mission as “a gift to the nation, especially to those who may not otherwise have access to quality healthcare,” urging residents to arrive early, as services will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The outreach is open to elderly citizens, children, families, and individuals with untreated hearing, vision, or cardiovascular challenges.
The Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, founded by the former president, focuses on health, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and community development. Its hearing program has restored hearing and hope to thousands of Nigerians, and this outreach stands as a tribute to Obasanjo’s legacy of service and compassion.
A statement from Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, described the outreach as a “legacy-driven humanitarian initiative” reflecting the former president’s lifelong commitment to service, nation-building, and the well-being of Nigerians.
Residents in need of medical attention are encouraged to take advantage of this rare opportunity, as thousands are expected to benefit from the comprehensive, life-changing services.
A team of medical professionals and volunteers will be on ground to ensure smooth and effective delivery throughout the program.
The outreach has been widely publicized in Abeokuta and Lagos, with community leaders and stakeholders urging residents to participate and share information about the free services. Large crowds are expected, given the high demand for quality healthcare in underserved communities.
