Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Tunde Lemo, has expressed sadness over the death of veteran sports journalist, Alhaji Hakeem Akintunde.
In a statement on his official Facebook page, Dr. Lemo described Akintunde’s death as a great loss to the media industry in Ogun State. He praised the late journalist for his professionalism, dedication, and passion for sports and broadcasting.
Alhaji Akintunde was the Director of Programmes at Ogun State Television and was well respected among his colleagues. He was buried at the Sunnat Muslim Cemetery in Abeokuta, with government officials, journalists, and community leaders in attendance.
Dr. Lemo described the late broadcaster as a mentor who inspired many young journalists through his work and guidance. He said Akintunde lived a life dedicated to excellence in broadcast journalism and that his legacy would continue to inspire others.
He also sent his condolences to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, the management and staff of OGTV, as well as the family and friends of the deceased.
Dr. Lemo prayed that God grants Alhaji Hakeem Akintunde eternal rest and comforts everyone affected by the loss.
The death of Akintunde has continued to attract tributes from journalists and public figures, who described him as a dedicated professional and a key figure in Ogun State’s broadcasting history.
