The Ogun State Government on Wednesday reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security agencies and deploying technology to combat crime and maintain public order.
Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, unveiled the new CCTV control room at the headquarters of the Ogun State Security Network (Amotekun) in Abeokuta, commending Corps Commander Brig Gen. Alade Adedigba (retd.) for initiating the project.
Talabi said the control room reflects growing professionalism and strategic foresight, noting that effective security now requires both personnel and technology in critical locations. He added that the integration of surveillance tools will enable real‑time monitoring and quicker decision‑making during emergencies.
He added that only three CCTV centres are currently operational, but the government plans to expand the pilot phase across the state, scaling up the system to cover all security flashpoints. The expansion will involve installing additional cameras in high‑traffic areas, schools, markets, and border towns.
Emphasising inter‑agency collaboration, Talabi stressed that complex security challenges demand sustained cooperation among police, military, and other forces to maintain stability. He called for joint training exercises and shared intelligence platforms to ensure seamless communication.
Brig Gen. Adedigba explained that integrating technology makes operations proactive and automated, reducing response times and saving lives, with a detailed expansion report already submitted to the state. He noted that the control room will be staffed 24/7 by trained analysts who can dispatch units instantly.
Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo and Vigilante Commander Sola Sodiyan praised the initiative, pledging continued partnership to reinforce Ogun’s security architecture. They highlighted that the CCTV network will complement existing patrols and community policing efforts.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s support for Amotekun’s growth was highlighted, with officials noting that technology‑driven policing will enhance crime prevention and real‑time response. The governor has allocated additional funding to procure modern equipment and train personnel.
The launch marks a significant step in Ogun’s security modernisation, positioning Amotekun as a key player in safeguarding residents and deterring criminal activity. Stakeholders expressed optimism that the technology‑enhanced framework will foster safer neighborhoods and boost public confidence in law enforcement.
