Pastor Chris Okafor, a prominent and well-respected televangelist and founding pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, has strongly decried the growing menace of cyberbullying and called for urgent regulation of Nigeria’s cyberspace to protect citizens from online abuse and harassment.
Okafor made this impassioned call at a news conference in Lagos, expressing his deep displeasure and disappointment with bloggers and online influencers in Nigeria who he believes have taken to spreading unverified allegations and false information, often with reckless abandon and devastating consequences.
He recalled that in November 2025, actress Doris Ogala accused him of a long-term affair, murder, and other serious allegations that he claims are baseless, malicious, and damaging to his reputation and ministry.
Okafor claimed the allegations were false and part of a well-orchestrated smear campaign, saying he’s been a victim of relentless cyberbullying that has taken a significant toll on his mental health, emotional well-being, and ministry, causing irreparable harm to his reputation.
He urged the National Assembly to take immediate and decisive action to legislate against internet abuse and ensure offenders are punished to serve as a deterrent to others, emphasizing the need for accountability in online spaces.
The pastor questioned how Ogala could accuse him of murder and also claim he wanted to marry her, pointing out the glaring inconsistencies and absurdity in her allegations, which he says defy logic and Chris Okafor’s supporters.
Okafor’s ex-wife and daughter allegedly joined the fray, making more shocking allegations, including defilement claims that he vehemently denies, calling them “baseless and malicious lies” aimed at destroying his reputation.
Okafor denied these allegations, citing a 2014 divorce proceeding where infidelity and violence were cited, but no defilement claims were made, suggesting the latest allegations are fabricated and part of a larger conspiracy to destroy his reputation.
He reassured his members and Nigerians that truth would prevail and offenders wouldn’t go unpunished, saying he’s confident in the Nigerian justice system and committed to clearing his name.
