The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects, Umar Auwalu, 23, Isyaku Yakubu, 40, and Yakubu Abdulaziz, 21, in connection with the brutal murder of a housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano.
The arrests were made during a sting operation conducted between 10pm on January 17 and 4am on January 18, 2026.
Umar Auwalu, the leader of the syndicate and a nephew of the deceased housewife, confessed to the crime and admitted involvement in other killings and attacks, including the killing and burning of two housewives at Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.
The police recovered four blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club (gora), and some amount of money suspected to have been stolen from the scene, as well as other dangerous weapons.
The Kano State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to bringing perpetrators of crimes to justice and has commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and bravery.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to apprehend other accomplices, if any.
The community is still reeling from the shock of the brutal murder, and residents are calling for improved security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
The police command has expressed condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Kano State, assuring them that efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, to ensure that the investigation is thorough and that all those responsible are brought to justice.
The police have urged members of the public to continue to provide information that could lead to the arrest of other suspects involved in the crime.
