Remo Day 2025: Abiodun Highlights Culture as Pathway For Unity, Investment
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described cultural festivals such as Remo Day as vital platforms for unity, investment, and the preservation of identity, saying they provide an avenue for indigenes to reconnect with their ancestral roots while contributing meaningfully to the development of their homeland.
Governor Abiodun made this remark at the second edition of Remo Day celebration held at the Akarigbo Pavilion, Sagamu. The event, themed “One People, Diverse Cultures, One Identity,” attracted sons and daughters of Remoland from across the country.
He noted that Remoland is richly blessed with illustrious personalities whose contributions have impacted Ogun State and Nigeria, adding that the large turnout at the event demonstrated the unifying power of culture. The governor warned that societies that lose touch with their cultural roots risk losing their identity.
Highlighting key infrastructural projects in Remoland, Governor Abiodun listed the Sagamu–Iperu–Ode–Sapaade Road among landmark developments, while also announcing that international cargo operations would commence at the Gateway International Airport in the coming month. According to him, the development will transform logistics, create thousands of jobs, and position Remo as a major agro-processing and export hub in West Africa.
Speaking with journalists, the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, commended Governor Abiodun’s steadfast commitment to the growth of Remoland and Ogun State at large through investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and tourism. He described the 2025 Remo Day celebration as a powerful affirmation of pride, unity, and cultural wealth, stressing that culture is not only heritage but also a strong driver of tourism, investment, and community pride.
Earlier in his address, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, explained that the vision behind instituting Remo Day was to celebrate, preserve, and project Remo culture to the global stage. He reaffirmed that the Remo identity remains resilient and enduring, while assuring continued collaboration with stakeholders towards the realization of the proposed Ijebu-Remo State.
The monarch also expressed appreciation to Governor Abiodun for partnering with Remo indigenes to construct the palace pavilion, which will serve as a venue for major cultural and civic events.
Also speaking at the event, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, urged the people of Remoland to strengthen unity and cooperation with their Ijebu kinsmen, emphasizing that peace, harmony, and shared commitment are crucial to achieving the creation of the proposed Ijebu-Remo State.
The second edition of Remo Day featured colourful masquerade displays, cultural performances, homage-paying to the Akarigbo by various groups, and the official opening of the Akarigbo Palace Pavilion, with dignitaries from across the country in attendance.
