In a strongly-worded statement issued by Wándé T. Àjàyí, Director of Media and Public Communications, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ondo State, the party expresses deep sadness and profound disturbance over the tragic and avoidable death of Good Emiju, a young and promising citizen of Ondo State.
Emiju was knocked down by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s convoy in Oka Akoko on December 15, 2025, while returning to Akure from a Thanksgiving Tour, an event that has been described by many as a needless extravagance given the circumstances.
He was rushed to the General Hospital in Oka Akoko, but due to the facility’s deplorable state, he was transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he was pronounced dead, a stark reminder of the glaring inadequacies in the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
The PDP questions the circumstances surrounding Emiju’s burial, citing serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and possible official pressure to hush up the incident.
The party finds it alarming and reprehensible that the Ondo State Government has maintained a deafening silence on the incident, failing to issue an official statement or clarify facts, thereby leaving the public with more questions than answers.
“This silence is unacceptable, insensitive, and deeply disrespectful to the memory of the deceased and the grief of his family,” Àjàyí said, adding that it reflects a callous disregard for human life.
He emphasized, “The life of every Ondo State citizen matters, and no government has the moral right to sweep such a tragic occurrence under the carpet, especially when it involves the Governor’s convoy.”
The PDP demands an immediate, transparent, and comprehensive explanation from the Ondo State Government on the incident, including details of the circumstances leading to the accident, the response of emergency services, and the reasons behind the reportedly hurried burial.
The party also calls for a thorough and independent investigation into the matter, with a view to identifying those responsible and ensuring justice for Emiju and his bereaved family.
The incident has once again laid bare the decay of Ondo State’s public health system, with the PDP citing the General Hospital’s inability to adequately treat Emiju as a damning indictment of the present administration’s failure in governance and priorities.
“The PDP stands with the family of Good Emiju and the people of Oka Akoko in demanding truth, justice, and accountability,” Àjàyí stated, urging the Ondo State Government to take immediate corrective measures to address the systemic failures in the way of emergency services and healthcare delivery.
The Ondo State Government must be reminded that power is held in trust for the people, and no life should be treated as expendable, the PDP added, calling on the government to act with urgency and transparency to address the concerns raised by this tragic incident.
