The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has gotten a new leadership as Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, the former National Chairman, formally handed over the affairs of the Party to the new National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
In his address at the handing over ceremony, Turaki declared that the PDP will never die, emphasizing that the party is bigger than any individual or group of individuals.
He stated that those who have chosen to dine with the opposition while still wearing the party’s colours have been shown the way out.
Turaki assured that the PDP under his leadership will immediately commence healing and reconciliation among genuine members, enforce party discipline without fear or favor, rebuild structures across the 36 states and FCT, and present a formidable, united front against the failed APC administration.
In his farewell remarks, Ambassador Damagum thanked the Party on behalf of other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) for the opportunity given to them and pledged to work together with the current members towards achieving the needed reforms in the Party.
The Party’s National Working Committee also issued Certificates of Expulsion to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike and other members who have persistently engaged in anti-party activities.
The expelled members include Samuel Anyanwu, former National Secretary; Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN, former Legal Adviser; Umar Bature, former National Organizing Secretary; Abdulrahman Mohammed, former National Vice Chairman, North Central; Ayo Fayose, Former Governor of Ekiti State; George Turner; Austine Nwachukwu, former Imo State Chairman; and Abraham Amah, former Abia State Chairman, among others.
The PDP acting under Article 59(3) of the PDP Constitution (as amended 2017), had on November 16, 2025, at the National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, ratified the expulsion of the members for gross anti-party activities, sabotage, and open collaboration with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Turaki declared that the PDP is alive, strong, and marching to victory in 2027, stating that no amount of money, blackmail, or intimidation will stop the party.
The new National Chairman assured all loyal members that the PDP under his leadership will work towards achieving the party’s goals and objectives and urged them to remain focused and united.
