The Commander of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit in Ogun State, CSP Salami Akanni Murphy, has assured the Peace Initiative Committee (PIC) a non-profit association established to curb cultism in the state of his full support and that of his team in sustaining peace and security across Ogun State.
Salami gave the assurance on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by members of the committee to his office at Magbon, beside the Conference Hotel, opposite the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta.
Speaking during the visit, CSP Salami commended the committee for its bold initiative to unite former cultists for the purpose of promoting peace and community safety.
He noted that many of the members were once involved in cult activities but have now turned a new leaf and are using their experiences positively.
“Experience is the best teacher,” he said.
“These individuals have seen, learned, and conquered. They are now elders on the field with valuable lessons to share.”He added.
The SWAT Commander further praised the group for complementing the efforts of the police and other security agencies, noting that their activities will go a long way in easing the work of law enforcement officers in the state.
“I appreciate your movement, your initiative, your boldness, and your wealth of experience.
“The kind of people I see here are not empty you are fully loaded with knowledge and courage to drive this cause.” Salami Stated.
He assured the association that all credible information shared by them would be treated with utmost seriousness and confidentiality, emphasizing that intelligence from such trusted sources is vital for effective policing.
“We believe that information from you will be reliable, and henceforth, we will give every report you provide the attention it deserves,” he affirmed.
CSP Salami also encouraged the members to remain united, fearless, and committed to their mission.
He urged them to continue to love and trust one another, maintaining that as long as they stand for truth and peace, they remain a beacon of light in society.
In his response, the Chairman of the Peace Initiative Committee, Comrade Abioro Akeem Anthony, appreciated the SWAT Commander for his warm reception and pledged the association’s readiness to work closely with the police.
He expressed optimism that with the command’s support, the group would achieve greater success in reducing cult-related activities in Ogun State.
Earlier, the association’s Public Relations Officer, Comrade Ifebola Togunwa, had introduced the group and explained that the visit was to formally present the association to the SWAT Command and seek collaboration in promoting peace and security across the state.
