Chief Ayedun Ifadare Owodunni, popularly known as Agbotifayo, has applauded Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for declaring August 20 a public holiday in honor of Isese Day, a move he described as a milestone in recognizing African Traditional Religion.
Agbotifayo, a renowned Chief Priest and founder of the Agbotifayo Empire, gave the commendation on Wednesday during the annual Ifa sacrifice held in Isara Remo to commemorate the 2025 Isese Day.

He noted that for decades, traditional worshippers had been sidelined while Christianity and Islam enjoyed official recognition through public holidays.
“While in school, we were taught that there are three religions: Traditional, Christian, and Islamic. So why was traditional religion relegated? We are grateful that in recent years, August 20 has been set aside as our annual holiday. Before now, only the other two religions had such recognition,” he said.
The Chief Priest further appealed to Governor Abiodun to strengthen efforts towards institutionalizing traditional worship for greater acceptance and development.
He also called on Yoruba sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora to embrace and preserve their cultural and spiritual heritage.
“There is no Yoruba man or woman without one or two traditional deities in their lineage. Abandoning our culture and tradition is like a river cut off from its source,” Agbotifayo emphasized.
He concluded by offering prayers for peace, growth, and sustainable development in Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
