Ogun State Police Command Tackles Farmers-Herders Conflict in Odeda
In a bid to resolve the lingering disputes between farmers and herders in Odeda, the Ogun State Police Command convened a stakeholders’ meeting on February 4, 2025. The meeting, held at the Olugbo Police Outstation, brought together various ethnic nationalities residing in the area to foster dialogue and mutual understanding.
The meeting was convened following a directive from Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD. In attendance were key representatives from various groups, including traditional leaders, farmers, herders, and security outfits.
The stakeholders’ meeting aimed to address the incessant cases of crop destruction and cattle killings arising from disputes between farmers and herders in Olugbo and adjoining villages. The meeting provided a platform for the various groups to engage in constructive dialogue and work towards a peaceful resolution.
During the meeting, several key resolutions were reached. These included a commitment to peace and tolerance, early conflict reporting, law enforcement collaboration, and a pledge to maintain peace and security in the region.
The stakeholders agreed to prevail on their followers to embrace peace and tolerate one another. Community members were also urged to report disputes promptly to the police or nearby quasi-security outfits before escalation.
The police assured all parties of their commitment to swift intervention in any emerging disputes to prevent violence. Stakeholders commended the proactive steps taken by the police and pledged their full cooperation to maintain peace and security in the region.
The meeting, which concluded at about 1720 hours, was widely appreciated by all participants as a timely and effective approach toward resolving longstanding conflicts. The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to fostering peaceful coexistence and ensuring that law and order prevail across all communities.
