A six-month-old baby kidnapped by her cousin, Joy Nuwa, has been rescued by the Niger State Police Command. The incident occurred last Saturday in the Kwamba area of Suleja, where the baby’s mother had left her in Nuwa’s care while she ran an errand.
Unbeknownst to the mother, Nuwa, along with some neighbors, had planned to sell the baby. They took the infant to Kubwa, Abuja, but their plan was foiled when the baby was reported missing to the police.
An investigation was launched, and police operatives attached to the Maje Division arrested four suspects: Joy Nuwa, 20, from Nasarawa; Favour James, 25, from Kwamba; Ezekiel Emmanuel, 30, from Kwamba; and Patience Obana, 23, from Kubwa, Abuja.
According to the Police Command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, the mother had reported the baby missing at the Maje Division on January 24, 2025, at about 10 pm. When she returned from her errand, she found both Nuwa and the baby missing. Nuwa claimed she had left the baby at home and locked the door, but officers found no sign of a break-in.
The investigation led to the questioning of neighbors Emmanuel Ezekiel and Favour James, who was later arrested. Emmanuel confessed that they had planned the abduction with Nuwa and taken the baby to Patience Obana in Kubwa, FCT, to arrange the sale.
With Emmanuel’s help, Nuwa, Favour, and Patience were later arrested, and the baby was rescued unharmed. All suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
The Niger State Police Command has handed over the suspects to the SCID Minna, where they will face further investigation and prosecution. The police have assured that justice will be served in the case.
The rescue of the six-month-old baby is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Niger State Police Command in combating crime and ensuring the safety of citizens.
