A yet-to-be-identified man has lost his life while attempting to vandalize a transformer in the Akute area of Ogun State. The incident occurred on Friday, and it has been confirmed by the Ogun State Police Command.
According to reports, the community had been experiencing issues with the theft and damage of electrical wires from their power transformer. The spokesman for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, revealed that the deceased had climbed into the transformer house and attempted to cut a wire, resulting in electrocution.
The incident was reported to the police by the chairman of the Irewole community, Rasheed Ajagbe. Ajagbe stated that he received a call to inspect the transformer and upon arrival, found the lifeless body of the unidentified individual.
Odutola explained that the community had been experiencing theft and damage of electrical wires from their power transformer for a while. The police spokesman stated that a team of detectives visited the scene to investigate and take photographs.
The PHCN office was contacted, and the corpse was taken and deposited at the General Hospital Ifo mortuary for autopsy and preservation. The police are currently investigating the incident to determine the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the electrocution.
The incident serves as a warning to would-be vandals and thieves who target electrical infrastructure. The police and other relevant authorities will continue to work together to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of communities.
