Tragedy was averted in Dutse, Jigawa State, on Monday when a mother and her two children narrowly escaped death after a vehicle rammed into their living room. The incident occurred at midnight on Elpies Street, with the vehicle, a Toyota Corolla with registration number NSR 120 BC, driven by Muhammad Galadima, 32, and Abdullahi Abubakar, 41 ¹.
According to DSP Lawan Shiisu, the state police public relations officer, the incident is suspected to be a case of drunk driving. The Elpies Street Mobile Quarters in Dutse received information about the incident at 12:30 a.m., prompting a swift response from the authorities.
The vehicle crashed into the living room of the residential building, causing a massive fire that engulfed both the vehicle and the house. Unfortunately, the fire spread to three neighboring houses, which were burnt to ashes. Fortunately, the mother and her two children were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment ¹.
The police and firefighters responded quickly to the incident, with the combined efforts of firefighters and good Samaritans helping to extinguish the fire. The police have taken both suspects and the vehicle into custody for further investigation, after which they will be charged to court.
