The Ogun State Police Command has successfully rescued four kidnapped victims, including three Indian nationals and one Nigerian, who were abducted on June 30 at the Ilisan axis of the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin Expressway ¹ ² ³ ⁴.
State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Alamutu, disclosed this information at a press briefing held at the Command’s Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Tuesday.
Governor Dapo Abiodun had given a directive to the police and other security agencies to apprehend the kidnappers, who struck on the victims’ first day in the country.
The kidnappers, traveling in an unregistered Venza car, fired shots at the driver’s side tires and rear, forcing the vehicle to stop. They then abducted the occupants and fled towards Ijebu-Ode.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Anti-kidnapping Squad pursued and located the suspects in a bush. A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the elimination of two suspects, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The rescued victims, one Nigerian and three Indian nationals, were reunited with their families unharmed.
Police recovered five AK-47 rifles, 105 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, eight AK-47 magazines, and two cell phones from the scene.
Upon examining the rifles, operatives found different denominations of foreign and Nigerian currencies tucked inside, indicating possible foreign involvement in the kidnapping.
Alamutu reassured the public that Ogun State’s security architecture is working to ensure safety and security, especially along the affected axis.
The police commissioner urged the public to report any suspicious persons with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station.
