The Adamawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has launched a campaign against private and commercial drivers misusing the union’s stickers.
These drivers allegedly display the stickers on their windscreens and falsely claim to be journalists to evade punishment for traffic offenses.
The NUJ’s communique, released on Sunday, condemned this practice, stating that it undermines the integrity of genuine journalists.
During the November 2, 2024, NUJ Congress in Yola, members unanimously agreed to take action against offenders.
A one-week ultimatum, effective from November 3, 2024, has been issued for the removal of unauthorized stickers.
Only authorized NUJ members with valid ID cards will be permitted to use the stickers.
The NUJ has alerted the Police, DSS, Road Safety, and other security agencies to be vigilant and report any offenders.
