A 16-year-old girl, Aisha Suleiman, has been detained by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly poisoning her ex-boyfriend, Emmanuel, and four other young men in Afashio community, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State ¹. The incident occurred on October 26, 2024, when Emmanuel’s father, Mr. Elogie Ezekiel, discovered the lifeless bodies in his son’s apartment.
The victims included Emmanuel, 19, his girlfriend Ada Samuel, 16, Nurudeen, and Emmanuel’s friends Samuel and Jeffrey Ayegwalo. According to reports, the victims had consumed a pot of pepper soup prepared by Suleiman before their deaths ¹.
Ezekiel found Nurudeen’s body in the corridor and Emmanuel and Ada’s bodies on the bedroom bed. Samuel and Jeffrey were found unresponsive in the sitting room. All five were rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
The investigation took a significant turn three days later when police received a report that Suleiman was about to be lynched by a group of young men from the community. Police officers from the Jattu Division intervened and transported Suleiman safely to the station.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation ¹.
Commissioner of Police, CP Umoru Ozigi, has ordered a detailed investigation, instructing officers to pursue every possible lead to determine the true cause of death. He warned against mob action, urging the community to allow the police to carry out their duties.
CP Ozigi reassured the public that justice would be pursued diligently. The Etsako West Local Government Area, where the incident occurred, is one of the 18 local government areas in Edo State ¹.
