Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Ogun State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of police Omolola Odutola, has urged the public to take proactive measures to safeguard their WhatsApp accounts from hackers.
While featuring on fresh fm Safety and Security Programme Toju Tiye SP Omolola Odutola emphasized the increasing threat of WhatsApp hijacking and the importance of 2-step verification to prevent unauthorized access.
“Hackers are becoming more sophisticated, and WhatsApp accounts are prime targets,” Odutola warned. “By enabling 2-step verification, users significantly reduce the risk of their accounts being compromised.”
To protect WhatsApp accounts, the police spokesperson outlined the following simple steps:
1. Open WhatsApp
2. Go to Settings
3. Select Account
4. Enable 2-Step Verification
5. Create a Secret PIN
This additional security layer requires users to enter a unique PIN when resetting their password or verifying their phone number, thereby preventing hackers from gaining access.
SP Odutola advised the public to be cautious when clicking on suspicious links or providing personal information online. “Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility,” she stressed. “Stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.”
