The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Adamawa/Taraba Area Command has made a significant seizure of smuggled goods valued at N71.7 million.
The seizure was announced by Customs Area Comptroller, Mr. Garba Bashir, during a press briefing in Yola, Adamawa State. Bashir revealed that the seized items include petrol, flour, rice, and second-hand clothing.
The petrol seizure comprised 1,115 jerry cans of 25 liters each and 26 drums of 220 liters capacity, totaling 33,595 liters. These items were intended to be smuggled into the Republic of Cameroon.
Three vehicles used by suspected smugglers were also confiscated during the operation.
Additionally, 200 bags of foreign flour weighing 50kg each, 57 bags of foreign parboiled rice weighing 50kg each, and 10 bales of second-hand clothing were seized.
Bashir emphasized that the petroleum products were seized from various borderlines in Adamawa and Taraba states.
Due to their inflammable nature, the seized petroleum products will be auctioned immediately to the general public, following standard operating procedures.
The NCS has intensified efforts to curb illegal trade activities along Nigeria’s borders, adopting a zero-tolerance stance towards smuggling.
