A 42-year-old teacher, Gbolahan Osinusi, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly raping and impregnating his 17-year-old ward. The suspect, who was also the victim’s guardian, reportedly forced her to undergo multiple abortions with the help of a nurse, Mariam Fatolu.
Gbolahan Osinusi’s arrest was confirmed by the Lagos Police Command’s Spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin. According to Hundeyin, the suspect forced the survivor to swear an oath not to reveal the abuse, threatening her with death if she did.
The victim reported the abuse, alleging that Gbolahan Osinusi had been having sexual intercourse with her since she was 12 years old until December 2023, when she was 17. The suspect’s actions were only brought to light when the case was transferred from Festac Division to the Gender Unit of Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja.
The case was reported on September 30, 2024. The police swiftly acted on the report, leading to Gbolahan Osinusi’s arrest and subsequent charging. Mariam Fatolu, the nurse who allegedly administered abortion drugs to the victim, has been admitted for medical attention at General Hospital Ketu-Epe.
Gbolahan Osinusi was charged to court on October 16, 2024. The community is outraged, and demands for justice are growing. The case highlights the need for increased vigilance and protection for vulnerable individuals, especially children, against abuse and exploitation.
